NATO phonetic alphabet reference
The ICAO written spellings are canonical — “Alfa” and “Juliett” are spelled that way in the standard so speakers of any language pronounce them correctly, and they sound identical to the common English spellings shown alongside. Four digits have a spoken form that differs from how they are written, to keep them distinct over a noisy line.

Punctuation common in keys, emails, and passwords is spelled out in plain words — dash, period, underscore, at sign, slash, backslash, colon, semicolon, hash, plus, equals, asterisk, ampersand, parentheses, brackets, braces, exclamation mark, question mark, quotes, and a few more. Anything outside the alphabet, digits, and that punctuation set (an accented letter, an emoji) is left as the raw character and marked “not in the alphabet” rather than given an invented word.
